Refrigerator Not Cooling Here Are Seven Ways to Fix It

Refrigerators are magical devices that keep your house running. Refrigerators have become necessary to preserve your daily food supply and keep your beer at perfect temperatures.

In short, none of us can survive a day without one. Typically, refrigerators have worked without issues for years, and most small problems can be fixed with a little troubleshooting.

However, if your refrigerator isn’t cooling, you need to pay close attention; or even better, have a technician check yours.

In case you want to check by yourself, read these 7 ways to fix it before calling a tech.

You might be able to resolve it yourself.

Refrigerator is not cooling

What to do if your refrigerator is not cooling?

1- Check the Power Plug

Check if the cord is correctly connected to an outlet that supplies the electricity. If it’s loose or has poor contact, try changing the plug or connecting it to a different one.

2- Set Correct Refrigerator Controls

Make sure you have the appropriate settings in place. The thermostat might be set too high. You can fix this by switching the setting to a colder temperature and see if that fixes the issue.

3- Clear Vents

Too many items in front of vents can affect the refrigerator’s circulation and cooling performance. Try to remove things in front of the vents to let cool air flow easily.

4- Make Sure the Door Is Closing Properly

Any gap in the door can let warm air in and cool air out. Check if the door gasket is damaged. Repair the seal or replace the gasket if needed.

5- Defrost Evaporator Fan and Coils

The Evaporator system circulates cool air in the refrigerator. If the evaporator fan breaks or stops working for another reason, the fan and coils freeze over time.

You can manually defrost the coils. They are found in the back panel of the refrigerator. Unplug your refrigerator and open the panel with a screwdriver, leave it for a while to defrost, then put it back in its place.

6- Damaged Air Inlet Damper or Baffle

A damper or baffle is a flap-type device that controls the airflow between the refrigerator or freezer.

It is usually found in the back panel near the top of the refrigerator. If the flap is broken, it can obstruct the flow of cold air.

If you have a little bit of DIYing and fixing abilities, you should be able to change this flapper yourself.

7- Change the Capacitor

Capacitors are parts that control the starting and operating of various appliances in your house. Changing a capacitor is straightforward.

If you know what one looks like, you can easily find it in the back panel. Simply replace it with a new one of the same amp.
